Image of first putting a road in |
This week I have started to make the website. I first started by making the road by creating a 3D quad and changing the size to a size similar to the first unity tutorial about the car which will have the same layout as the game that I'm making where the camera will follow the player. I then added an image to the road to make it look like a road to cover the white up. After finding an image that I thought suited the game I then had to find a police car this was a bit difficult and took longer than I expected to find, as most of them I had to pay for I found one which can be seen in the second image which was free however when I brought it into the game the colour of the car came off and it did not look like a police car and I could not use it. I eventually found a police car and brought that into the game. The next challenge was trying to find a background in New York that was free, which also took longer than I expected. I ended up finding some separate assets that I had to add to the game separately. I added a script called playercontroller and added this to the player. The biggest challenge was finding the assets and trying to resize them this took a lot of unnecessary time and this is all I got done in the 3 hours. I decided to copy and pace the first building to save time. I then added colour to the buildings.

Hi Niamh
ReplyDeleteGreat blog post, the first step to finishing the game is starting so your on the way there. I think it was a good idea to use similar assets and code to the first unity tutorial which is smart and will free up some time as you can just watch the tutorials and copy the code if you want your game to have similar actions, that would really free up time.
I you go back over some of the unity tutorials you can find code that will make you buildings keep respawning, if that's what your doing. You should look on the unity website for assets as there are loads of free asset packs, instead of paying, you can even download the tutorial files and carry them into your project or even start with the tutorial files and build on them so you can have a good base game. Hope the game comes along well and good luck!!!>
Hi Niamh! You've made a great start to your game and good progress in building your set up. I can understand the struggle of finding the right assets but I'm glad you eventually found what you needed. The scene looks really good with the buildings even if it did take a lot of time to put together. I can definitely relate to this because I took ages putting trees and bushes in my game as well as resizing them. However, it's worth it in the end! It would be useful to take a look at past tutorials we've done and tweaking some of the code to suit your game!
ReplyDeletehi Niamh! Hope your doing well with online college!
ReplyDeleteI already love the design layout of your game already it looks so cool, you’ve already made such good progress as well! I was finding it so hard to start but once you get started its actually fine , I was also the same with struggling to find assets for my game to I think I was just on unity assets store for a good hour looking for them all , but I love the one you picked!
Anyways so excited to see your finished game, so wishing you all the best with it ! π
